Joel's debut album, 'Mountain Twin EP', is the product of a loss of purpose and his decision seek the truths he had let slip away. In an attempt to heal, Joel returned to North Dakota for the winter and intentionally fasted from the creative process. Instead, in the isolation and desolation of the Midwest winter, he worked in various trades and made it a point to absorb the work ethic, character, and soul of the both his native culture and environment. It was during this time of contemplation that he found life in exploration, and peace in his identity. He returned to Nashville with the desire to create music that reflected this discovery. With the guidance of artist/producer Eric Hillman (Foreign Fields), 'Mountain Twin EP' manifested into the documentation of the exploration and transformation that takes place in the wonders of physical world and the deepest parts of the mind.
"Mountain Twin' is a tribute. To skies forever. To seeing in every direction until the horizon drops. To climbing mountains only to descend a different man. To family bands, and singing strings, and raging floods. 'Mountain Twin' sings to these. And sweetly." - John Paul Roney (Boom Forest)
